The Negotiator Awards 2008 hailed the event of the year

The Negotiator Awards 2008 has been hailed a huge success and a welcome morale boost for the industry in the current market downturn.

The inaugural ceremony, which was organised by The Negotiator in association with FindaProperty and Primelocation, went off with a huge bang last night as more than 450 of the industry’s top movers and shakers gathered to celebrate the achievements of their winning peers in 18 award categories (pictured right).

Guests gathered for the celebrations at the prestigious London Hilton Hotel on Park Lane and enjoyed champagne, fine food and the hilarity of our host, TV comedian supremo Rory Bremner, as well as a post-awards casino, which raised over £2,500 for the UK housing charity Shelter.

David Newnes, managing director of Your Move, says: "Last night's event was a huge achievement and a milestone event for The Negotiator. I am sure it will become an annual date for the calendar.

"The industry needs events like this, with awards to win, to celebrate the many highly successful people and businesses in the sector

"The business of estate agency is all too often much maligned and there aren't too many opportunities to celebrate success.

Harry Hill, chairman of Countrywide and winner of the Estate agency lifetime achiever award, agrees, describing the event as "bloody brave", given the market downturn.

He adds: “It was a very good evening; it was very well run and I thought it was very well compered.

"In future years I will try to nominate other people who I think are worthy, either from within Countrywide or outside the business.

"There are insufficient recognition mechanisms within the agency business; all one tends to hear normally is the shockingly bad news."

Hill’s sentiments are echoed by Nigel Hoath, managing director of eConveyancer, who says: “The credibilty of the evening was evidenced by the quality of the guests, plus Rory Bremner, who was a fantastic choice of host.

“It is about time estate agents had their own awards."

Greene & Co scooped a whopping four awards at The Negotiator Awards 2008.

The North London-based agency fought off tough competition to be named Estate agency marketing team of the year and Estate agency employer of the year, as well as picking up the top award of the night – The Negotiator’s Best of the Best trophy.

The agency’s managing director David Pollock also enjoyed personal success in being named Estate agency leader of the year.

Northfields was crowned Estate agency of the year (independent), while Foxtons was named Estate agency of the year (regional chain).

The Connells Group was named Estate agency of the year (national chain).
