MDA starts charity challenge countdown

A recession was not gruelling enough for one group of industry folk, who in less than a week will embark on a three-stage outdoor challenge to raise money for two local charities.

The team (pictured), which comprises staff from Searchflow and Myhomemove as well as The Negotiator editor Clare Bettelley, has agreed to complete the MDA 12-hour timed challenge in Wales next weekend as part of their annual charity event programme.

The Beating the Beacons challenge comprises an 11-kilometre canoe section via the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, from Brecon to Talybont, and a mountain bike off-road stretch along a section of the Taff Trail from Talybont, including a tricky descent for at least 500 metres, of approximately 25 kilometres in length.

The final stage of the challenge is the Para Challenge, which requires the team to get to the top of Pen Y Fan, the highest peak in the Brecons, within 50 minutes before descending by the old Roman road back to Cwm Gwdi, which is approximately 17 kilometres, including an 800 metre ascent.

Micky Chilman, business development technical solutions manager for SearchFlow and challenge organiser, says: "Here we go again. It’s that time of year when the die-hard team at MDA is dusting off its walking boots, squeezing into last years lycra and dragging its poor bodies through intensive training for the next charity commando event.

“Our intrepid team of 22 adventurers set off next weekend to tackle a tough canoeing, walking and cycling challenge in the Brecon Brecons. A formidable and demanding adventure awaits them, but they are committed to completing the endurance test and raising as much money as they can for two fantastic local charities, so please support them.” 

All monies raised will go to Demelza House hospice, which MDA has agreed to match. The matched amount will go to The Kent Air Ambulance Trust.

The team aims to raise £7,500 for each charity.
