Portal mania as traffic hits record highs
Two of the industry's highest profile property portal groups have revealed record visitor traffic for August.
The Digital Property Group claims today that over 4.6 million house hunters visited its portals last month, which equates to a visitor every 0.57 seconds and an enquiry every 2.16 seconds. Of these, 3.1 million unique users visited FindaProperty, marking a 34.2% year-on-year increase, and a record since analysis began in 2005. Meanwhile, FindaNewHome saw 369,000 unique visitors, up 57.8% year-on-year, while Primelocation visitors increased 20.9%. TDPG says that the traffic volumes have boosted leads by 39.6% compared wit the same period last year.
Mark Milner, chief executive of The Digital Property Group, which is headline sponsor for The Negotiator Awards 2009, says: “The record figures and high enquiry levels, coupled with house price values and purchases increasing in July, is a clear sign that the property market and consumer confidence is improving. However, with many potential buyers locked out of the market by restrictive lending practices, and the government needing to do more to encourage lenders to loosen their grip, the recovery remains a fragile one.”
This sentiment is echoed in TDPG latest My Home Life Survey, which reveals that 28% of house hunters cite souring a mortgage as their main barrier to buying a property.
Meanwhile, Zoopla claims to have had 1.04 million unique users last month, which is an 18% increase on July. Zoopla claims that the figures also reveal that total visits to Zoopla.co.uk in August were up 21% at 1.58 million and page views were up 26% at 12.4 million compared with July. The site also saw a 51% month-on-month increase in leads generated to agents in August.
