Sales volumes rise 31%, reveals Registry
The number of properties sold between February and May is 31% higher than the level sold during the same period last year, according to the latest Land Registry house price index.
Sales averaged 48,219 per month during the period earlier this year, which compares with the 36,947 sold per month during the same period last year.
In terms of prices, the average property price across England and Wales increased by 0.4% on the month and 6.7% on the year to £166,798.
On an annual basis, Brighton & Hove has retained its top of the pots position after seeing the highest annual price change for the third consecutive month, with prices up 17% on the year and 1.5% on the month to £224,358.
On a monthly basis, agents in Ceredigion in mid-Wales saw the highest price rise of 2.9% to £181,408, while agents in Blaenau Gwent in South Wales saw the greatest monthly fall, with prices down 6% to £77,712.
